How It Works

The Ocean Pet Caring Foundation provides financial assistance when people cannot afford veterinary care for their pets. We can help in two ways:

  • When pet owners are experiencing a financial hardship
  • When citizens find an animal in need who needs care,
but the pet owner cannot be found.

Due to the foundation's infancy, we are extremely limited in funds at this time. We are constantly working to increase donations through community events and grants.

Ocean Pet Caring Foundation partners with the following agencies to subsidize medical treatment, boarding and other services:

Shore Animal Volunteer Enterprises, Inc. (S.A.V.E.)

New Beginnings

With multiple medical issues including skin disease, Snow White was brought to OCVH for examination. Following a month-long course of treatment, her general health and appearance greatly improved. In addition to the examination, vaccinations and a beauty makeover (bathing, haircut and nail clipping) completed Snow White’s transformation.

In addition, Onyx, Lily, Donna, Morris, Oxxy and Sally (just to name a few), all impounded or rescued felines facing uncertain futures, have been socialized, medically cleared by OCVH and have found new happiness in permanent loving homes because of S.A.V.E. and OPCF.

New Beginnings

Tino, a Bichon Frise mix puppy from South Jersey, spent his days and nights either tied in the yard or in the basement. His consistent barking out of boredom and from lack of human interaction drew the ire of his owner’s neighbors and a threat of fines from local police. At the tender age of just five months, he was now considered an economic liability to his owners. Tino was turned over to New Beginnings rescue.

OCVH examined, vaccinated, dewormed and gave Tino a clean bill of health. All services performed were paid for by donations to OPCF.

Shy, with no house manners, Tino spent multiple weeks with a New Beginnings foster family learning the do’s and don’ts of acceptable behavior living indoors. Today, Tino is the perfect little boy and has a new family of his very own. He is the only pet in a household with teenage children who dote on him, making his earlier existence nothing more than a bad dream.

New Beginnings has rescued breeds from Chihuahuas and Pomeranians to Great Danes, Newfoundlands and Saint Bernards. They have received these wards under various unfortunate circumstances. Through their untold hours of loving foster care, training, behavior modification and health care funded through OPCF, these animals have been given a new lease on life.

A local senior lived alone with her beloved feline companion.  In the summer of 2006, she discovered that her cat’s health was declining and was forced to put her cat down.  The emptiness and loss she experienced was emotionally and physically overwhelming.

Some months later she was introduced to a rescued female cat in need of good home and a loving heart. This was a match made in heaven for both of them.

As in many times the case with strays and rescues, the lack of medical information or health history can cause considerable setbacks in medical concerns arise. While undergoing a simple surgical procedure, a medical crisis occurred. The cost both emotionally and financially to the cat’s new owner was monumental.

The Ocean Pet Caring Foundation provided financial support, alleviating the owner’s stress of making a difficult decision which allowed life saving treatment.

It is through the foundation, that this local senior and her newest best friend are able to continue celebrating the human-animal bond.
